While financial institutions’ revenue recovery actions on loans to farmers invoking the Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Securities Interest (SARFAESI) Act darken the lives of thousands of farmers, the Wayanad district administration is preparing to solve the problem.

According to data available from the government, 11,600 farming families are at risk of income recovery in the district. Financial institutions issued revenue recovery notices to 4,400 farmers and the institutions initiated revenue recovery proceedings against 2,000 of them.

The Revenue Department and financial institutions will organize mega adalats at taluk level to solve the problems of indebted farmers, said District Collector A.Geetha. The Sulthan Bathery taluk mega adalats will be held at the Pulpally grama panchayat auditorium on March 7th and 8th and at the municipal hall of Sulthan Bathery on March 10th and 11th.

Vythiri taluk’s adalats will be held at SKMJ Jubilee Hall in Kalpetta on March 2-3 and Mananthavady taluk’s at St. George’s Sunday School Auditorium in Manathavady on March 10.

Financial institution authorities would provide possible deductions on the debts of Adalat farmers, Ms Geetha said.
